Project Achieve is a WCPSS instructional initiative in designated schools to provide greater support in maximizing student achievement to reach the school’s goals.
Project Achieve is a model of continuous improvement, constantly assessing where we are and what we need to do to improve. In order to implement Project Achieve, we do the following:

  • We use the Plan-Do-Study-Act model.
  • We constantly seek best teaching practices.
We analyze student achievement data and use that data to drive classroom instruction.
  • We align the curriculum, instruction and assessments. Grades 3, 4 and 5 deliver daily focus lessons in reading and math which are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and provide an introduction to the daily block on instruction in reading and math

  • We assess students frequently on a small number of objectives and use that information to provide immediate refocusing or enrichment which we do during our Cougar Time each week.
  • The staff identifies areas of strength and weakness at each grade level in reading and math and sets goals for improvement.
  • We are supported by a team from central office.

How can parents be involved?

Parent involvement is a key to student success. Here are some tips to help ensure your child’s success in school:

  • Monitor your child’s homework.Ask specific questions about what your child is learning.Take time to read the materials in the Tuesday folder. Review the assessments with your child to see how he/she is learning the material, especially in reading and math.Read with your child every day.
  • Schedule conferences with your child’s teacher (s) to keep track of how your child is doing and how you can help.
